about the network

Our History

The Network was set up in Lincoln on the back of a research project looking into the barriers experienced by young people and their employers across the city.

It was found that there was a lack of joined up support in Lincoln. There is a range of training providers across Lincoln and no single service that is able to refer young people to the support they need, whether that is a recruitment service or health and well-being support.

Young people need more support now than they ever have. Nationwide shifts in the labour market towards ‘knowledge-based’ or ‘office-based’  roles and away from manual ones, as well as a slow economy, mean that making the transition between school and work is more difficult than it was 20 years ago. These issues are compounding the youth unemployment issue across Lincoln.

The Network officially launched in June, 2016. It operates alongside Voluntary Centre Services at City Hall.

Our Aims for Young People

We want to:

  • Encourage and support young people with advice and guidance on training, education, volunteering and employment.
  • Give people the skills, knowledge and confidence to take part in training, education, volunteering and employment.
  • Provide a safe and open space for young people to meet and chat without judgement.
  • Help young people in Lincoln get to where they want to be.
  • Provide Lincoln with a joined up service where young people can get all the advice they need.

Our Aims for Businesses

We want to:

  • Develop employment opportunities for young people with employers in Lincoln.
  • Raise awareness of the benefits of employing and investing in young people.
  • Become a ‘one-stop shop’ facility for both young people and local employers.
  • Ensure that the activities, opportunities and services that the Network offers are open to all young people.
  • Develop partnerships within The Network with local partners, providers, and national organisations that can assist young people in achieving their aims.
  • Maximise income from all sources to enhance The Network’s provision to the community and be sustainable.
